Jesus Calling

A very good friend of mine gave me the devotional Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.  I think everyone who reads devotionals is reading this right now.  I see posts on Facebook and other social media sites.

I love this devotional because it seems to speak to me personally.  I know that is the point of devotionals, but this one seems to be particularly good at reminding me daily of what God wants from and for me.

I was really inspired by today's devotion.

"Seek My face, and you will find all that you have longed for.  The deepest
yearning of your heart are for intimacy with Me.  I know because I designed
you to desire Me.  Do not feel guilty about taking time to be still in My Presence.
You are simply responding to the tugs of divinity within you.  I made you in
My image, and I hid heaven in your heart.  Your yearning for Me is a form of
homesickness: longing for your true home in heaven.

Do not be afraid to be different from other people.  The path I have called
you to travel is exquisitely right for you.  The more closely you follow My
leading, the more fully I can develop your gifts.  To follow Me wholeheartedly
you must relinquish your desire to please other people.  However, your close-
ness to Me will bless others by enabling you to shine brightly in this dark world."

I love that.  It really puts in perspective how He made us to want and desire to have Him in our lives.  We can be still in His Presence because He knows us.  He knows our wishes, desires, and inner most thoughts.  The words "I hid heaven in your heart"  are so sweet.  They express subtleness but intention and purpose at the same time.  Just like we get homesick for the comfort and security of home, we seek the comfort and security of Him.

I guess it comes with age and experience, but I wish it were easier to explain to young people how important it is to embrace their individuality.  Even some adults worry about fitting in and being "liked" others.  The reason it is hard and uncomfortable is because we go against our purpose.  We are who we are because it is what God intended.  Every young person should know that what makes them stand out and makes them unique is what is best about them.  So many times they want to hide it, but their special gifts is what should be comfortable and come easy to them.  They shouldn't try to fight it.  It is hard to get people to understand that with a world of bullying and fear of not being liked.

I am blessed to have such a good friend who knows me so well and knew that I needed this book just at the time she gave it to me.  I am so fortunate to have someone so special looking out for me.  Thanks, Lori!  Love you and our friendship!
